Neil Young—MusiCares Person of the Year

MusiCares is the charitable arm of the Grammys organization, providing critical assistance for music people in times of need. The services they provide cover personal, musical, and financial crises, and they also work to focus the music industry on other human service issues.

On January 29, MusiCares has their annual charity event honoring the Person of the Year, in 2010 that’s Neil Young. Young’s “Heart of Gold” and philanthropy have been admired by the recording industry for many years. He was one of the founding fathers of Farm Aid and also does annual benefit concerts for a school he and wife Pegi sponsor that caters to children with severe speech and physical impairments.

The evening’s tribute concert boasts an all-star lineup with performances by Ben Harper, Lucinda Williams, Jack Black, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, Sheryl Crow, Everest, Patty Griffin, Josh Groban, Emmylou Harris, Elton John, Norah Jones, Lady Antebellum, k.d. lang, Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Ozomatli, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Leon Russell, James Taylor, and Wilco.

Proceeds from the annual GRAMMY Week gala dinner and concert honoring Young will provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that music people have a place to turn to in times of financial, medical and personal need.
