Travel Green Guide

At this time of year, the majority of travelers are readying themselves to join family and friends for celebrations in private homes, staying with loved ones, sleeping on lumpy pull-out sleeper sofas, and eating too much. The new year represents, in so many ways, a new beginning for each of us—a blank slate. As you begin to fantasize and dream about your plans for 2010 travel, I have a new tool for you. The International Ecotourism Society is a global source of knowledge and advocacy uniting communities, conservation, and sustainable travel. Each year they publish their Travel Green Guide filed with travel tips and suggestions, travel providers who place earth first, and advice on how to be culturally and ecologically sensitive wherever you may wander. The listings of companies and organizations with their areas of expertise make choosing a travel provider or tour provider much easier. It’s worth perusing, and can be studied online.

Since today is the opening day of COP15, the  United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark (December 7-18), where delegates from 192 nations are gathering to analyze and explore the ramifications of global warming—this seems a perfect time to make GREEN the color of your future travel plans.
