So today is the last time in our lifetimes that we will witness a recurring date like today’s (12/12/12, last year’s 11/11/11, etc…since there just ain’t gonna be a 13/13/13)–and tonight is a pretty huge milestone as well. It is the broadcast of the 12/12/12 Concert for Sandy Relief, to raise funds for recovery from the storm we call Sandy. Sandy has now gone into that category of names that hold so much pain, along with Katrina. Tonight’s SuperEvent to counter the effects of the Super Storm, is at Madison Square Garden, and will feature heavyweights like Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Roger Waters, Kanye West, The Who, and Paul McCartney, all to support the Robin Hood Foundation and get the region back toward up on its feet. There is an awful lot to do, and it will take an awfully long time (intentional use of “awful” though friends of mine and friends I’ve yet to meet who are volunteering with cleanup know how rewarding it can be to create a community of support).
Watch tonight, call in and donate, and make a difference. If you can’t be there in person, donning your work gloves and putting lives back together piece by piece, be the guarantee that those lives recover.
