Charitable Anne Hathaway

Hathaway as Fantine, Les Miserables

If you’re anything like me, you can’t get those dang lines “I had a dream my life would be, So different from the hell I’m living” that outstanding Anne Hathaway tears out of her heart in such a raw way, out of your head. My own life is pretty great, not so hellish, and seeing Les Miserables this holiday season will undoubtedly make it cooler–I’m just fascinated with the way the film was shot and hope it is the start of a cinematic trend.

But back to the shorn Ms. Hathaway–you know she got married this fall, to Adam Shulman, and she donated the money raised from selling exclusive images of the event to some pretty righteous causes, including Freedom to Marry(important not only because it was the images from HER marriage, and doubly resonant today, as the Supreme Court announced it would take up the cases presented to it in regards to marriage equality). Additional charities benefiting from her big day were the American Cancer SocietySt. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and The Girl Effect.

Here’s hoping the newly wed Anne not only cleans up in awards season (I suspect Oscar is already forging a new golden statuette in her likeness), but also that her heart-in-the-right-place way of being informs all of us during this season of giving, and beyond.
