Thursday, May 13, is National Doodle Day. How often are you stuck on the phone listening to inane Hold muzak, scribbling away on a piece of scratch paper. Sometimes it’s a crazy pattern of circles with no rhyme or reason, sometimes a cartoon character you perfected through repetition in third grade, perhaps it is those geometric shapes you first perfected in a community college drawing class. Doodling is a fun time filler requiring next to no attention, and the results can sometimes be fascinated, whether completed on purpose or interrupted by the operator coming back on the line to receive your complaint, shifting your focus entirely.
National Doodle Day is a part of Neurofibromatosis Awareness Month. Celebrity doodles from actors, musicians, sports stars, filmmakers, and politicians are on auction via eBay, and the money raised will help this charity provide care and support to NF patients and their families.
Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 2,500 births. NF is more common than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, and Huntington’s Disease combined. Funds raised from the Doodle Day auction will also go to support education, advocacy, coalitions, and research for treatments and a cure.
