I’m flying to the U.K. today (weather gods willing), so my mind is across the pond.

I’ll only be in London for one day, but am hoping to find a volunteer organization with whom I can pitch in and lend a hand for a bit. Friends at VisitBritain set me up with a list of great organizatiosn to start my search, so I thought I’d share—for the next time you’re London-bound.

We Are What We Do

TimeBank – UK volunteering charity that matches volunteers to opportunities http://www.timebank.org.uk/

Media Trust – similar concept to the above, but this one links people in the media like PRs, writers, and web editors to charities that need their media skills.

Closer to the tourism sector, the National Trust and English Heritage run volunteering schemes – could be helping with gardening, repairing a coastal path or patching up a mosaic floor.

There’s also a great resource at the Volunteering England website: http://www.volunteering.org.uk/IWantToVolunteer/Volunteering+in+the+UK/findingoutaboutvolunteeringinyourlocalarea.htm

  1. It’s great to see individuals so committed to volunteering, check out: http://digitaldocumenterslondon.wordpress.com/

It’s about a group of volunteers hoping to support, inspire and celebrate the 2012 Olympics!
